BIG LOVE

BIG LOVE
(A tribute to Doreen and Robert Hayes)
By Frances Harris

Her name is Doreen, a poet and writer,
Who suffered no fools, brought smiles to the lost,
She nurtured her children, and took in some more,
\
Loved everybody, would give them her shoes,
Her husband she loved him a lifetime and more,
They met in the wartime, a soldier his girl,
A child that they wanted came into her heart,
Nine years of waiting she’d never give up,
The joy of another, wanted by far,
Surprised by her presence, loved ever more,
Robert and Doreen in moderate life,
Their girls had the jewels that money can’t buy,
I remember the cycling my aunt used to do,
When Robert was travelling, the man always knew,
His family would wait with opening arms,
The people he loved, never wanting for more,
Two little babies, a girl and a boy,
I remember the time they came home, and the joy,
Cared for and loved, from a mother in need,
Shared between families to give them the best,
Doreen and Robert had made them their own,
Family to all, the dark and the pale,
We are all cousins, the children of earth,
Everyone equal, and no one stands out.
